Our time in Laughlin, NV with Judy & Lew

We wanted to take a trip south this year for Christmas time so we went and visited with my sister and her husband – Judy and Lew. Judy was able to get us rooms at the Riverside Hotel – very nice rooms with a beautiful view of the Colorado River. Our first night there we checked into our rooms and then went and had a great dinner at the Riverside buffet. Very, very good. We were all very tired and pretty much went directly to bed after dinner.

The next day we took a walk on the river walk right next to the hotel. It was very chilly and windy, but was still a very nice walk. We then walked over to where Judy and Lew were working at the Hickory Farms store at the mall. Everything was 50% off, so we got lots of goodies; beef and turkey sticks, crackers, cheese, chocolates and fudge. Yum!!! Judy was able to get off at 1:00 pm and at 2:30 pm came over and we took a ride on the Colorado River boat. It was wonderful!!! A little windy and chilly, but a very nice ride that was very informative. The narrator on the boat was very good with a lot of knowledge of the River, the dams (Davis & Hoover), and the City of Laughlin. After the boat ride we met up with Lew and went to the Aquarius buffet on 2-for-one coupons – this meal was even better than the night before!

On our last full day, Lew had to work, but Judy took us to a little old mining town by the name of Oatman. The town is tiny, old, rickety and full of characters – a lot of characters actually. When we first arrived they were having a shoot out in town – a bank robbery. And in the middle of the bank robbery 2 wild burrows just sauntered in and stopped the action for a minute. There are quite a few wild burrows that come into town and are fed by the locals and tourists with carrots that can be bought – sold by the local merchants. It was another delightful day. Afterwards, Judy took us back to the hotel where we rested for a while. Judy went to help Lew out at Hickory Farms. When she got to the store it was a madhouse. Everything was at 75% off and people were going crazy buying everything up. Afterwards we all went and had Panda Express – kind of tired of buffets by that time.

This is a part of the river walk and this is the hotel we stayed in.

Here we are on the beginning of our river boat ride - after this picture was taken Grandpa went downstairs because it was so cold and windy. Terri, Judy, Mandi & Grandpa.

Here we are again, and yes, the one on the right is Mandi - all bundled up and the warmest of us all.

Now we are on our way!

The burrows were really cute and fun!

Whoaaaa Burrow!!

Nice Burrow!!

The "bank robbery & shoot out" in Oatman.

During the shoot out a couple of burrows just walked right in front of the activity - the show came to a halt for just a moment to let them saunter over to the tourists for some carrots.

Some of the burrows weren't getting all the carrots they wanted, so they decided to try and get into one of the shops and get their own.

This little guy fed off from a couple of the other mother burrows - he wasn't choosy.

Grandpa really liked these little guys and they liked him quite a bit as well. The young ones had stickers on their foreheads that said "Don't Feed Me" because they don't do well swallowing and can sometimes choke.

So Bill - was this one playing dead or just plain "dead tired". Nice shadow there Mandi...:-)

Another tired little one.

Me and my sis watching the burrows.

Here we are - it's family picure time

Christmas Day 2008

Christmas Day – Grandpa Courtney, Mandi Sue, Courtnee Dawn, Bill and Terri traveled to Grandmother Biggs’ house where we spent a very nice late morning/early afternoon with Grandmother, Aunt Barbara, Aunt Helen and cousin Grae-Marie. After opening presents and a nice “linner”, it was picture time. Here are some of the fun pictures of that afternoon.

Grandpa Courtney's Christmas 2008 visit.

One of Grandpa Courtney’s gift from daughter Terri was a 15 punch pass to her gym the Clearfield Aquatic Center. There is a track and there are also quite a few treadmills. Grandpa and me would go and walk on the track a few laps, then jump on the treadmill for about ½ hour or so, and then back on the track for another few laps. Grandpa really enjoyed being able to do his walking even though it was snowing like crazy outside and very cold. He even ran a few times on the track.

Another thing Grandpa learned to do was check his email that we set up for him. He is doing really good on the computer.
